With a New Year right around the corner, you’ve probably started thinking about your resolutions, but have you taken into consideration how the activities you chose to participate in now will help you Get Old?
Get Old is an initiative developed by Pfizer to challenge people of all ages to rethink what it means to Get Old and take a more active role in their health and quality of life at every age. The activities and choices we make today have a significant impact on the way we age in the future. This includes our diet, how much sleep we get, whether or not we exercise and how we treat our bodies in general.
I wasn’t able to accomplish my 2013 resolutions because of my foot injury and then getting pregnant shortly after that. I definitely want to repeat a couple of those resolutions for 2014 and have added a couple more. I don’t like making a long list of goals nor do I focus on weight (even though I am hoping to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight sooner than later). I like incorporating at least one long term goals that will give me motivation to work all year, for me that’s the half marathon. I also like to include at least one short term realistic goal to the add to the year.
So here are my 2014 resolutions:
1) to run a half marathon under 2 hours
2) to take a dance class, preferably ballet
3) get back to my pre-pregnancy fitness ability
4) have my kids plan one healthy dinner which incorporates a vegetable each week
These are activities that will help me Get Old well. For example, running is good for my heart and dance makes me feel like a kid again, not to mention it’s a great physical activity. Getting back to my fitness level within the year post-partum will give me confidence and give me more energy. Having the kids help with meal planning will not only get them involved, but it will get them excited about trying new healthy dishes and will hopefully allow them to vary their vegetable intake.
Have you thought about your New Year’s Resolutions?

GREAT NYRs!!!!! I love the kids and planning meals one! I remember when I was little, my family would always have family dinners on the weekend! We would always take the time to go to the grocery store with my dad and be really involved in selecting the foods we wanted to eat 🙂 That made it all so much fun! I really miss those days, however, I still get really really excited when I go to the grocery store! 😉

Great list! So far my only goal for the new year is to be healthy and happy. Broad but I’m still thinking the narrowing down part!

Nice NYR 🙂 I didn’t have any or 2013. I simply wanted to continue living my goal of being my healthiest, happiest self. Any event, competition, and goal along the way that I would end up working towards would be be bonuses 🙂

Great resolutions!! I am still working on mine. Last year I went crazy and set 13 goals so definitely learned from that lesson> 🙂

lol, well 13 is quite a lot. I didn’t set many last year but I still wasn’t too successful due to random circumstances. Definitely motivated this year!

I have not done any resolutions for the last few years– framing my year instead with one word to help me focus on goals.. (well ok, in my head, I probably still have a few resolutions floating around). Goal/resolution-whatever you want to call it- I am working on wellness- physical and emotional in 2014.

I need to add more strength to myself, so what makes me older, makes me stronger.
