Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a restful wonderful day. We hosted a small New Year’s party for my husband’s work team- ate lots of great BBQ and fantastic desserts. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t eat too much. I don’t get on the scale very often but my jeans are definitely a little snug from the past few weeks of splurging.
January is a great time to set some goals for things you’d like to accomplish in the new year, whether they be fitness or health related or for personal growth. It’s amazing how at the end of the year we tend to collect more clutter, buy more things and let our diets go by the wayside. The new year allows us to put some focus back on our priorities. I know that’s what I am doing.
If any of you are looking to kick off the new year with a little weight loss, I have the perfect thing for you. I am hosting a fun weight loss challenge that will begin in 12 days! I don’t normally encourage “weight loss” as a new year’s resolution because it’s such a broad goal, but making it more specific by saying “I will lose 4% of my body weight in 4 weeks by going to the gym 3 times a week and packing a healthy lunch everyday” makes it a great goal. See the difference?
So here is what you need to know about joining my DietBet:
1) Join Nutritious Eats DietBet starting January 14th ending February 11th (4 weeks)
2) Ante up the money- I set the bet at $25 (this goes straight to the pot that gets split in the end. See #4).
3) Submit your starting weight photo a couple days before the challenge starts (don’t worry, photos and weights remain PRIVATE. They are necessary for DietBet reps to verify weights).
4) Lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks to claim your share of the pot (everyone who meets this goal splits the pot EVENLY). Basically you get paid to lose weight. Seriously.
I will be here to support you for the 4 weeks of the weight loss challenge. 4% of your body weight is totally doable. You will have the online support of other members who join this DietBet, plus I will make sure to offer any help I can to allow you to meet your goal. I am planning on weekly posts on Wednesdays where we will do weigh-ins and I will offer weight loss tips, food suggestions and support for those who need it. Sound fun? I think so!!
In addition to the fun you will have and the reward of losing some weight (DietBet states that 90% of participants lose weight), I must mention again everybody who meets the 4% weight loss goal will split the pot EVENLY! It’s not like a biggest loser challenge where the winner takes all. The more people who play the bigger the pot so share this post with your friends, family, coworkers, facebook friends, etc.
I personally think it’s a genius idea. It’s so hard to lose weight when you don’t have support or motivation from others and I think this DietBet is a great way to be held accountable. Plus you want to win your money back (plus MORE) right? Consider it a little investment. Who knows, maybe I will continue hosting the games if people find them fun and helpful. LOVE this idea, Melanie!! I may join in. This summer I tried to lose and absolutely couldn’t. I don’t need to lose very many lbs. Maybe 5. I don’t really feel the need to get all 10 lbs off from my weight last spring. Somehow, I think my body is a lot happier where I am right now. I think I was starving. But still…may be fun just to join and see what I can do. Can I submit my weight now? Or is it the weight on Jan 14th? Because I am already in the game!

You can submit your weight 2 days before the game begins. You are doing a great job already- challenges are always fun though even if your goal weight loss is a lot less than most people. Sometimes those last few pounds to get to goal weight are the hardest to lose!
